Specialized Training
Children are our only patients, and all of our training is devoted to meeting their specialized needs. A Pediatric Dentist has two to three additional years of training beyond undergraduate and dental education.
Dr. Sjostrom completed a PhD in Oral Biology in addition to dental school and pediatric residency. He is the only Board Certified Pediatric Dentist in New Mexico to also hold a PhD.
A Pediatric Dentist’s extra years of training are devoted to learning about the growth, development, and dental needs that are specific to infants, children, adolescents, and those with special needs.
As a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist, the American Board of Pediatric Dentists (ABPD) certifies that the dental care which Dr. Sjostrom provides is based on standards of excellence that lead to high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. Certification by the ABPD guarantees that a Pediatric Dentist has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to the delivery of quality patient care.
Dr. Sjostrom is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD), a fellow of the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), and a member of the American Dental Association (ADA). He maintains privileges at Presbyterian Hospital and Lovelace Hospital for children requiring treatment under general anesthesia.
